What Our Clients Say
Why Choose The Mortgage Geezer?

Can I get a mortgage after a DMP?
A question we get asked a lot is “does a DMP affect your mortgage?”. Our answer is “if you come to The Mortgage Geezer it can affect you a lot less!”
Debt management mortgages can be harder to secure because lenders are cautious about lending to people who may have credit issues in the past. However, if you’re in a DMP at the moment, or have recently come out of one, we think we can find the right mortgage for you.
The Mortgage Geezer has relationships with DMP mortgage lenders. These specialist lenders are more sympathetic to applicants in DMPs, and this can improve your chances of getting a suitable mortgage deal.

What is a debt management plan?
A debt management plan (DMP) is designed to help you if you’re struggling to pay off debts like store cards or loans (non-priority debts). It’s an informal agreement between your creditors and you where you pay one monthly payment that is then divided among your creditors.
DMPs are generally managed by a DMP provider, so you don’t have to deal with your creditors, the provider will do it for you.
DMPs can offer a good way for some people to deal with problems with debt. They work best for anyone who has enough money to pay for everyday expenses, but would like some more help with some types of missed payments. They’re a good option if you don’t have the time, or energy, to deal with your creditors yourself.
Although DMPs can be a valuable weapon when it comes to managing your finances, they can’t be used for so-called priority debts, which include things like mortgage arrears, utility bill payments or magistrates’ court fines.
Rest assured though, whatever your reasons for a DMP at The Mortgage Geezer we won’t judge anyone who is in a DMP, or has just left one. Our only concern is finding you a mortgage.

What’s special about debt management plan mortgages?
While there aren’t specific ‘DMP mortgages’, a current or recent debt management will usually reduce your options when it comes to deals. This is largely because a DMP will hit your credit score. It’s possible that debt management mortgages lenders may want you to put down a larger deposit, as they won’t want to lend you as much, or you could find that interest rates are higher.
